On November 3, 2014 the American Semiconductor producer, Micron Technology, Inc., announced a new expansion of their automotive storage solutions portfolio. In mid to late 2015, Micron Technology will be releasing two new products, the M500IT Automotive SSD and the Automotive e-MMC 5.0 Memory.
The M500IT solid state drive (SSD) will be the industry’s first SSD made to meet automotive-grade standards. The drive will contain AEC-Q100-compliant NAND flash memory components and met system-level qualifications in certain automotive applications. Safety and security is also a major feature in the new drive as it includes hardware-based encryption, data-at-rest protection against unforeseen loss in power, and an adaptive thermal monitoring system.
Micron Technology’s new e-MMC 5.0 Memory will provide automotive application designers to develop new innovative programs. The e-MMC 5.0 Memory products are fully managed NAND solutions and will contain built-in controllers and industry-standard interfaces. They will also support current and upcoming navigation application requirements such as 3D mapping, environmental reporting, multimedia, satellite radio, phone call, and voice recognition. The memory concentrations of the e-MMC 5.0 Memory will range from 4GB to 128GB.
