Western Digital Grows Surveillance-Class Hard Drive Line
On October 27, 2014, the computer storage company, Western Digital, announced their plans to expand their WD Purple line of 3.5-inc hard drives. This line of hard drives is made with a primary focus for video surveillance storage and includes ATA streaming to reduce error pixilation and video interruptions.
Currently used in home and small business security systems, the WD Purple hard drive can utilize up to eight hard drives and up to 32 high definition video cameras. Originally only available in the range of 1TB to 5TB capacities, Western Digital looks in expand this line of product by introducing a higher capacity of 6TB.
The new 6TB WD Purple hard drive, Mode# WD60PURX, maintains its 3.5 inch form factor and SATA 6 GB/s Interface. In addition, IntelliPower RPM will be utilized and the hard drive will contain a cache of 64MB. With its large capacity, the 6TB WD Purple hard drive has greater ease in handling 4K HD surveillance and could possibly be a pioneer in the industry as 4k HD surveillance technology slowly becomes a more mainstream solution.
